Is Trek's Latest Domane+ LT Electric Road Bike Bliss?

One year ago Trek released the Domane+, an electric road bike designed to get you out on long, fast rides with a powerful battery and strong Bosch motor. That bike has inspired a new version that’s lighter and sportier—dubbed the Domane+ LT—which features a discrete 250Wh battery in the downtube and removable Fazua drive system. Read on to learn more about the brand new e-bike that’s geared toward experienced riders.

Own the road with the Domane+ LT

A Quick Look

  • 250Wh battery recharges in under three hours
  • Built-in top tube controls keep the cockpit clutter-free
  • Fazua drive system can be removed in seconds
  • Great ride qualities whether you use the drive system or not

Domane's in the Details

You get the same Domane endurance bike platform that’s been highly regarded for years, including the proven IsoSpeed decoupling system, 500 series OCLV carbon frame with sleek internal cabling, carbon fork, flat mount disc brakes, 12mm thru axles, and a compact double crankset paired with Ultegra shifting and an Ultegra 11-speed cassette. It’s a  mid-tier road bike by anyone’s standards, and unless you’re looking really closely you’d never guess it’s an e-bike. That’s where the Domane+ LT shines.

The Ultimate Training Tool

For a bike with a pedal-assist motor that can propel you up to 20mph, the Domane+ LT cuts a very sleek appearance. Not only that, but the Fazua motor found inside the rear hub is almost drag-free, so when you exceed the bike’s maximum speed—or you just want to see how hard your legs can push when the motor’s off—things feel pretty close to a regular road bike. This means you get amplified pedal power when you want it, without taking a major hit in weight and performance.

So who’s this trimmed-down version made for? Time will be the ultimate teller, but the idea pulls from a slightly more experienced perspective. If the more powerful Domane+ is made for folks with recreational-level fitness and experience, the LT version might appeal more to a fitter rider who has bigger ambitions. The ability to remove the drive system is what makes this bike unique. In this way the Domane+ LT fills the spot you’d keep for an everyday road bike, but with electric power on tap when you want to push beyond your limits.

Ride It All

With clearance for up to 38mm tires, IsoSpeed compliance in the fork and frame, and weather-beating disc brakes, there isn't much that can stand in the way of connecting one massive ride. Best of all, you can choose when to go it alone and when to apply a short boost of power. We think Trek is on to something good with this one and look forward to discovering how versatile it can be.
